Dates and instructors are subject to change as our staff is comprised of working actors. Actual length, in hours, of class may vary according to the number of students enrolled in a particular class.

Classes are taught in our studios in San Francisco and in our East Bay location in Downtown Lafayette at 3564 Brook Street.

Introduction to Voice-Over

Susan in the Studio This workshop is designed for you! You will learn what it takes to be a voice-over talent, the financial possibilities, the function of agents and casting directors, current voice-over trends and how VoiceMedia can help you set and reach your goals. Participants will be asked to work on mic and a brief personal evaluation will be given, If you are just starting to explore the industry and need basic facts and practical information, this is the place to start.

BEGINNING COMMERCIAL VOICE-OVER*

This 18-hour course is the foundation for all styles of voice-over. It is designed to teach you the basics of copy interpretation, vocal and mic technique, as well as studio vocabulary and etiquette. You will be introduced to commercial, character, and narration copy during this class. We offer the class as either a 6-week or 2 weekend series for your convenience. This is the foundation for all other voice-over classes.

BEGINNING VOICE-OVER CRASH COURSE

The Crash Course is the same as our Beginning Voice-Over class*, given over one weekend and is great for out-of-towners or people who can’t commit to the longer time frames. This course is only offered twice a year and only in our San Francisco location.

BEGINNING NARRATION

You hear it in school, at work, on TV, in doctors offices, standing in airport lines and riding in your car. There is a great need for narrators for educational, medical, and technical training videos as well as documentaries, audio books and voice mail systems. If you love to read aloud, this four week class is for you. You'll learn to apply pacing, breath control and focus to the many different styles of narration.

CHARACTER / VIDEO GAMES

adam harrington on microphone This exciting course is offered in a 6 week course. You'll have fun discovering the voices you have inside you, as well as creating new voices through the use of vocal placement and body movement. You'll learn to match voices and impact sounds to pictures and explore international and American regional accents. You’ll learn the skills required to create character voices that can be applied to animation, commercials, video games or just reading to your kids or grandkids! You will leave this class with a foolproof method to create brand new character voices at a moments notice. Learn how to put it all together! Learn to vocalize defending, attacking, dying and other in-game action sounds. Learn how to get noticed in this dynamic and fast growing genre.

AUDIO BOOKS

Cindy Jo Hinkleman is an LA based producer, director, and editor of audiobooks for companies such as Random House and Audible, Inc. She has worked on over 500 books including Bill Clinton's "My Life", and "The Pacific" by Hugh Ambrose. It has been her pleasure to direct such respected readers as Scott Brick, Marc Cashman and Rosalyn Landor. Most recently, she edited "Anne Frank: Diary Of A Young Girl: The Definitive Edition", a book that has been nominated for a 2010 Grammy in the category Best Spoken Word Album For Children. Her awards for sound editing include Golden Reel Award nominations for "Mickey's Twice Upon A Christmas", "Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron" and "U-571", and an Academy Award as a member of the sound editorial team for "U-571".

PEER GROUP WORKOUT - Practice Session

It’s just like it says... a 3 hour practice session. We put out the copy and you choose what you want to work on. One of our staff members will lead and give feedback. Whether you are a working talent, student at VoiceMedia or a student elsewhere, this is one of the most efficient and cost effective ways to enhance your skills, make new friends in the biz, and perhaps have a spur of the moment opportunity to audition for an up and coming project. We encourage people to take group classes to start, for one can learn a lot by watching and listening to peers behind the mic. However, if group classes do not work with your schedule, you have reached a certain level of proficiency, or you are a working talent and need a "tune up", why not schedule a private lesson?
